It’s most unfortunate that there has been a series of attacks on Indians in Australia since last two months. It all started just after I wrote this article in the early part of “May-09” on the steps taken by Australian society in terms of taking the Adult education to the next level. This was a professional exercise that I had carried out for a student from Australia through Academia Research. Since then there has been a chain reaction in Australia where Indians have been targeted for racially motivated attacks. It looks like some kind of mass hysteria based on a false premise or non-existent reason leading to insecurity among the local youth population. The issue has got aggravated due to the general recession in the world which has acted as fuel in the fire.
We can expect more of “such” phenomenon around the world in the near future as we are getting interconnected. The world is becoming a smaller and a more congested place as compared to say 50-100 years back. What we are witnessing are the initial birth-pangs of a shrinking and heavily exploited (exploitation of scarce natural resources) world which will anyway lead to the ultimate integration of the world in many ways (which may be for the good and the bad).
The closed societies, cultures and countries of the world will witness larger turmoil due to the phenomenon of a more interconnected world population and scarce resources. (Beware-Nothing can’t be swept under the carpet anymore. The skeletons will tumble out even if you try hard to hide them. The more you will take from the world, the more would the world want you to expose. )
Coming back to Australia, I hope better sense prevails soon and people will eventually understand that what we are seeing is an irreversible phenomenon. You just can’t resist the change. It is bound to happen “come” what may. People are going to move around the world more freely and caste, class, race and gender would lose the importance which they had in the past.
Welcome to the “collective chaos” of a small and claustrophobic world.
